A soldier and a child in Adinkerke, near Dunkirk, August 1917. I think this soldier is British from the uniform, if any one knows for sure please let me know. I saw this photo in a book i bought ('Shots From The Front' by Richard Holmes) and i found it so touching and sweet. I imagine the photo he is holding is of his own family. Lovely image from the First World War (which i think is in the Imperial War Museum archives in London).
I wanted to keep the drawing as simple as possible, i felt that not drawing in the background put more focus and emotion on the soldier and the baby. A moment captured in time and immortalised. I had to make up most of his left boot because the photo cuts slightly short.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.

A painting in a museum hears more ridiculous opinions than anything else in the world.
Edmond de Goncourt (1822 - 1896)
R.I.P. Michael Turner 1971-2008
This piece caught my eye right away, it is beautifully rendered.
Yes, he's a British soldier and with a few long service stripes too!
Lovely work.
